The Marienglashöhle Visitor Mines near Friedrichroda belong to the largest crystallised gypsum grottoes in Europe. Following closure of the mine in 1903, the show facility was opened. Due to the war there was a two-time closure of the cave. After extensive renovation, the Marienglashöhle since the 30th November 1968 available again. The cave is located on the northeast edge of the Thuringian Forest, at the transition to the Thuringian basin.
